Need to get a crew up to a ceiling, a wall or a rooftop edge in Edmonton? Lybroco Rentals rents electric slab scissor lifts for indoor work and rough terrain scissor lifts for outdoor sites, plus mast lifts for one-person jobs in tight spaces. Our scissor lifts run from 13 ft to about 43 ft of platform height, and the narrowest are just 30 in wide.
Scissor lifts are a go-to for warehouse maintenance, electrical, HVAC and sprinkler installs, drywall and general construction across Edmonton and area.
Platform height vs working height
The height in each of our scissor lift names (13 ft, 19 ft, 26 ft and so on) is the platform height: how high the floor of the deck rises. Working height is how high a person standing on the deck can comfortably reach, and manufacturers usually rate it at about 6 ft above the platform height. For example, the MEC 1930SE has a 19 ft platform height and a 25 ft working height. Both figures are in the table below for every model.
Which scissor lift do I need?
| If your job is… | Look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Indoor work on concrete: ceilings, electrical, HVAC, sprinklers | Electric slab scissor lift, 19 to 26 ft platform height | Battery powered with no exhaust, built for smooth, firm floors |
| Going through standard doorways, retail or warehouse aisles | 30 in wide slab lift (13 ft or 19 ft) | Our narrowest machines: the MEC 1330SE, MEC 1930SE and XCMG XG1930AC are 30 in wide |
| Open-floor fit-outs, more people or material on the deck | 46 in wide slab lift, 26 to 40 ft platform height | Wider decks and higher capacity (700 lb and up on our 46 in models) |
| Outdoor sites: gravel, dirt, uneven ground | Rough terrain scissor lift, 27 to 40 ft platform height | Higher ground clearance and capacities of 800 to 1,250 lb; many have outriggers for levelling |
| Big crews or heavy materials at height outdoors | Sinoboom 4389RD large-deck rough terrain lift | 13 ft x 6 ft deck, about 43 ft platform height, 1,499 lb capacity |
| One person, small footprint | Mast lift | Smaller footprint than a scissor lift for single-person work |
Electric slab vs rough terrain
- Surface: slab lifts are for smooth, firm surfaces like concrete. Rough terrain lifts are built for outdoor ground, and many have outriggers for levelling.
- Indoor or outdoor: battery-electric lifts are the usual choice indoors because there is no exhaust. Our rough terrain range includes battery-electric (Snorkel S2770RTE and S3370RTE) and diesel machines.
- Indoor vs outdoor ratings: some slab lifts have a lower platform height or capacity limit when used outdoors (for example the MEC 3232SE is rated to 32 ft indoors and 24 ft outdoors). Check the table and the machine decal.
- Floors: protecting a finished floor? Add tire socks or floor protection (see accessories below).
Measure before you book: check the clear width of your narrowest door or gate, the ceiling height and the floor you will be driving on. A 30 in machine needs a clear opening wider than 30 in plus room to steer through it.

Fall protection and operator requirements
Harnesses are required in scissor lifts in Alberta. The OHS Code requires a worker on a scissor lift to use a travel restraint system: a full body harness and lanyard connected to the anchor specified by the lift’s manufacturer, with the lanyard short enough (where reasonably practicable) to keep the worker from falling out of the platform but long enough to do the work (OHS Code Part 9, s.156(2)). The only exception is when the manufacturer’s specifications allow work using the guardrails alone for fall protection and the lift is operating on a firm, substantially level surface (s.156(3)). If the restraint cannot adequately restrict movement in all directions, a personal fall arrest system is required instead (s.156(4)).
We rent fall arrest harnesses, so you can add one for each person on the platform when you book.
Operators: under Alberta’s OHS Code, powered mobile equipment includes machines that raise workers on a powered aerial device. A worker must not operate it unless they are trained to operate it safely, have demonstrated competency to a competent worker designated by their employer, are familiar with the operating instructions, and are authorized by their employer (OHS Code Part 19, s.256). Make sure whoever runs the machine meets these requirements before it arrives on site.
Rental periods
Most equipment rents by the day, the week or the 4-week period:
- Day: 24 consecutive hours
- Week: 7 consecutive days
- 4 weeks: 4 consecutive weeks
- The minimum rental varies from 1 day to 4 weeks depending on the machine.
- Rentals are based on up to 8 hours of use per day, 40 hours per week or 160 hours per 4-week period. Extra hours on metered equipment are charged.

Delivery, pick-up and hours
Delivery area: we deliver across the greater Edmonton area, including Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Spruce Grove, Leduc, Nisku and Fort Saskatchewan. Our own trucks run within about 160 km of our yard, and we can arrange delivery further out, so ask. There is a charge for delivery and pick-up, based on the type of equipment and the distance travelled.
Pick-up and yard hours: you can also pick up from our yard at 1810 Yellow Head Trail NE, Edmonton AB T6S 1B4. We are open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We are closed Saturdays, but Saturday pick-up or delivery is available by appointment.
Towing it yourself? Most of our equipment can be towed behind a half-ton truck or equivalent SUV with a properly sized and rated ball and hitch, but some machines need a three-quarter-ton truck, and larger machines need a heavy transport company or our delivery. Ask us which applies to your machine.
Scissor lift rental FAQ
What size scissor lift do I need?
Find the highest point you need to work at. Working height is roughly the platform height plus 6 ft, so a 19 ft scissor lift (25 ft working height) suits ceilings up to about 25 ft. Indoors on concrete, most ceiling and mechanical work is done with 19 to 26 ft electric slab lifts. Outdoors or on rough ground, look at our 27 to 40 ft rough terrain lifts.
Will a scissor lift fit through a doorway?
Our narrowest scissor lifts are 30 in wide: the 13 ft MEC 1330SE and the 19 ft MEC 1930SE and XCMG XG1930AC (manufacturer specs). Measure the clear width of your door opening; you need more than 30 in plus room to steer. Our 32 in models are listed in the table above.
Can I use an electric scissor lift outside?
Electric slab lifts are made for smooth, firm surfaces like concrete, and some have lower outdoor height ratings. For gravel, dirt or uneven ground, choose a rough terrain model. Our Snorkel S2770RTE and S3370RTE are battery-electric rough terrain lifts if you need low noise and no exhaust outdoors.
Do I need a harness in a scissor lift?
Yes, in most cases. Alberta’s OHS Code requires a full body harness and lanyard attached to the manufacturer’s anchor (Part 9, s.156(2)). The exception is only when the manufacturer allows guardrails alone and the lift is on a firm, substantially level surface. We rent fall arrest harnesses.
How much can a scissor lift carry?
It depends on the model: our slab lifts are rated from 500 lb to 992 lb, and our rough terrain lifts from 800 lb to 1,499 lb. Capacity includes people, tools and material. See the table above, and check the decal on the machine.
Do you deliver scissor lifts in Edmonton?
Yes, across the greater Edmonton area. Our own trucks run within about 160 km of our yard, and we can arrange delivery further out. Delivery and pick-up are charged based on the type of equipment and the distance travelled.
